How to connect to a VPS over SSH (Windows, macOS, Linux)
Updated 25-10-2026
SSH is a secure connection to your VPS command line. All you need is the server's IP address and the root password or an SSH key.
Login details
- The IP address is on the service page: Panel → Services → VPS name.
- You set the root password when ordering. You can change it in Server configuration → SSH access.
Windows 10 and 11
Open Terminal or PowerShell and type:
ssh root@IP_ADDRESSOn the first connection type yes to save the server's key fingerprint. You type the password "blind": the characters do not show, that is normal. You can also use PuTTY.
macOS and Linux
Open Terminal and type the same command: ssh root@IP_ADDRESS.
Transferring files
Transfer files with WinSCP or FileZilla. Choose the SFTP protocol, the server's IP address, port 22 and the user root.
Logging in with a key
An SSH key is safer than a password:
- Create a key on your computer:
ssh-keygen -t ed25519. - Add the public key (the
.pubfile) in Server configuration → SSH access.

When you cannot connect
- Connection timed out: the server is off or a firewall blocks port 22. Check the rules in the Firewall tab and get into the system through the VNC console on the service page.
- Permission denied: a wrong password or keyboard layout. Set a new password in SSH access.
- REMOTE HOST IDENTIFICATION HAS CHANGED after reinstalling the system: remove the old fingerprint with
ssh-keygen -R IP_ADDRESSand connect again. - After changing the SSH port in the system, give it when connecting, e.g.
ssh -p 2222 root@IP_ADDRESS, and open it in the Firewall.
