Non-premium Minecraft server: letting in players without a premium account
Updated 25-10-2026
By default the server only lets in players with an official Minecraft account (premium). Players using TLauncher, SKLauncher and other launchers see the "Failed to verify username" error. You can change that in the panel in seconds.
How to turn it on
When a non-premium player tries to join, the server page shows Players without a premium account cannot join, with the number of attempts. Click Let non-premium players in… and choose who can join:
- Premium and non-premium, with a login (recommended): the panel installs a login plugin. On the first visit a player sets a password with
/register, later they log in with/login. Nobody can join under someone else's name. - Premium and non-premium, without a login: anyone can join under any name, an administrator's too. Choose it only with the whitelist on.
- Premium only: it stays as it is.
The same choice appears when you accept the EULA, and you can change it later in the server settings. The change works after a restart.
Player login
On Paper and Purpur the panel installs AuthMe, on Fabric EasyAuth. Forge, NeoForge and very old game versions have no login plugin: protect such a server with the whitelist (OP, whitelist and bans).
Player progress after the change
After the change players get new identifiers (UUIDs), so they start over: without their inventory and position on the map. The panel warns you when the server has saved progress. It moves operators, the whitelist and bans to the new UUIDs.
It is best to decide on the mode right away, on the server's first start.
A premium player sees "Failed to verify username"
On a premium-only server this error for a player with an official account usually goes away after restarting the launcher and signing in again.
