How to make a Minecraft server step by step
Updated 25-10-2026
You can have your own Minecraft server in a few minutes, without running it on your own computer. This guide takes you through the whole process: from choosing a plan to your first game with friends.
Hosting or your own computer?
A server on your home computer only runs while the computer is on. It needs port forwarding on your router and shows players your home IP address. A hosted server runs around the clock, has a fixed address and Anti-DDoS protection, and you manage it in your browser.
1. Choose a plan
The plans are on the Minecraft server hosting page. The most important parameter is RAM:
- a few friends and plain Minecraft: usually 2–4 GB;
- a server with plugins for a bigger group: 4–8 GB;
- modpacks: from 6–8 GB up.
More tips are in How much RAM does a Minecraft server need. You can upgrade the plan later without losing your world.
2. Create an account and pay
- Create an EpicHost account and confirm your e-mail address.
- Top up your wallet: BLIK, PayPal, paysafecard or a bank transfer.
- Buy the server in the panel. A longer period (60, 90, 180 or 365 days) is cheaper per month.
The server installs itself, usually within a minute or two.
3. Choose the engine and game version
In Panel → Servers → server → Add-ons → Engine you pick the engine and the game version:
- Paper or Purpur if you want plugins (e.g. EssentialsX, LuckPerms);
- Fabric, Forge or NeoForge if you want mods or a modpack;
- Vanilla if you want the plain game.
The differences are in Which server engine to choose.
4. Start the server
- Open the Console and click Start.
- Accept the Minecraft licence (EULA) in the window the panel shows.
- When the console shows
Done (…)! For help, type "help", the server is ready.
5. Invite your friends
The server address is at the top of the server page and in Server settings → Addresses. There you can also set a free subdomain, e.g. myserver.epsrv.pl, that is easy to remember.
In the game: Multiplayer → Add Server, paste the address and save.
